I started off as an entrepreneur, launching my first small business in Rockville and growing it into a Fortune 500 company, creating thousands of well-paying jobs and over $5 billion in annual sales. My team and I succeeded by innovating and solving big problems with the best ideas, and leading teams to deliver on a common goal.

As your County Executive, I'll bring that same passion, innovative thinking and collaborative approach to Montgomery County. My comprehensive jobs plan, "Montgomery Innovates - Building Our Future Together" focuses on improving our county's economy and creating high-wage jobs. The plan was born out of discussions with hundreds of employers, government officials, community groups and residents, as well as my own experiences as founder and CEO of a Fortune 500 company with one goal in mind: to identify the best ideas to move Montgomery County forward.

A recent analysis by the Maryland State Department of Assessment and Taxation shows only 19 new businesses filed to operate in Montgomery County for fiscal year 2016. That's a 67% decline over the previous year. This is on top of what we already know: Montgomery County created fewer than 4,000 new private sector jobs over the past 15 years from 2001-2016. Companies are continuing to move out of the county at an alarming rate and it's not only a drain on our economy, it's reducing our tax base. My plan provides the urgent action needed to address this issue.

My Jobs and Economic Plan offers proven solutions that will lead to a growing economy. I invite you to read the full plan (below) and welcome any input you may have here. Together, we'll build the diverse, high-performing, job-growing county that we all want and deserve.

Thank you for your support.

Making Montgomery County the startup capital of the East Coast by providing incubator space where entrepreneurs can work and live for free, increasing competitive grants, and providing more educational opportunities in our schools to promote entrepreneurship.

Supporting our existing businesses with a robust outreach plan, expanding our marketing initiatives, creating accelerator and wet lab space to support our growing industries, and conducting an aggressive buy-local campaign to shift more spending to local businesses to grow our local economy.

Changing the culture to put Montgomery businesses first by overhauling procurement to steer more county dollars to local companies, increasing our investment in economic development to improve our competitiveness, and rewarding businesses that create high-wage jobs with tax credits.
